News Title:D. R. Horton Brings Affordable Express Series Homes and Lifetime Golf Membership to The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen
The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen is a new home community of 38 single-family homes that D.R. Horton is bringing to the Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club in Conway, South Carolina. Located within the existing golf-course setting, this new development offers buyers an interesting combination of new construction, golf-course surroundings and a lifetime golf membership.
One of the more interesting aspects of The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen is its location around Holes 14, 15 and 16 of the existing Shaftesbury Glen Golf Course. Rather than simply being another residential development located near a golf course, the homes are being introduced directly into the established golf-course setting. This relationship appears to be the inspiration behind the name The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen.
The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen will also be the second D.R. Horton community associated with Shaftesbury Glen. On the south side of the golf course, D.R. Horton is already selling new homes in The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen, making the two communities part of a larger D.R. Horton residential presence surrounding the golf course.
The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen Community Map
The community map provides a closer look at the location and layout of The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen within the existing Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club property. The 38 planned single-family homes are situated around the golf-course setting associated with Holes 14, 15 and 16.
The map also helps illustrate the relationship between The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen and The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen, the separate D.R. Horton community already being developed on the south side of the golf course. Although the two neighborhoods are separate developments, their locations on opposite sides of the golf course give them an interesting connection.
For prospective buyers, the map is particularly useful in understanding how the proposed homes fit into the existing golf-course landscape and the surrounding residential development.
Single-Family Homes at The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen
D. R. Horton is planning a selection of one- and two-story single-family homes at The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen, with floor plans ranging from approximately 1,045 to 1,704 square feet of living space.
The community is part of D.R. Horton's Express Series, a collection of homes designed to provide more attainable new-construction options through efficient floor plans, practical layouts and a selection of more manageable home sizes.
The smaller home designs are particularly interesting because they introduce a more affordable entry point into a golf-course community. Buyers do not necessarily have to be looking for a large home to enjoy the surroundings and lifestyle associated with Shaftesbury Glen.
Among the home designs being offered is the Perry floor plan, which provides 1,045 square feet of single-story living space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Its split-bedroom design provides separation between the bedrooms, while the kitchen overlooks the central living area, creating an open and functional layout.
The Perry is already being offered by D.R. Horton in several communities throughout the Myrtle Beach area and is a good example of the smaller, more affordable home designs associated with the Express Series.
As of November 2026, D.R. Horton is offering the Perry floor plan in The Forest at Black Bear starting in the $230s. In Cottonwood Place, the same Perry floor plan is starting in the $207s (as of
November 2026). These two communities demonstrate the affordability that can be associated with D.R. Horton's Express Series, particularly for buyers interested in a smaller, two-bedroom home.
The planned home-size range of approximately 1,045 to 1,704 square feet gives buyers a selection of smaller and larger designs, with both one- and two-story options. For those looking to purchase a new home without necessarily taking on the expense or maintenance of a much larger property, this collection of home designs could be particularly appealing.
Another notable feature is the lifetime golf membership being offered with the community. D.R. Horton highlights this benefit in its community video, adding another appealing component for buyers who enjoy golfing and want to make the sport part of their everyday lifestyle.
Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club
Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club is an 18-hole, par-72 golf course located on Shaftesbury Lane in Conway. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston and opened in 2001.
The course reflects Johnston's traditional golf-course design philosophy, with wide fairways, large greens, substantial teeing areas and strategically placed hazards. The course is approximately 6,935 yards from the back tees.
Shaftesbury Glen has a distinctive setting in the Conway area, with the golf course surrounded by the natural landscape of the Waccamaw River region. It has a considerably different character from many of the more densely developed golf communities closer to the Myrtle Beach resort area.
One of the most interesting aspects of Shaftesbury Glen is the way the course combines relatively generous fairways with more demanding approaches and greens. The course gives golfers opportunities off the tee, but accuracy becomes increasingly important as they approach the putting surfaces.
That golf-course setting is particularly important to The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen because the proposed community is associated with three consecutive holes on the back nine.
Hole 14 — A Challenging Par 4
Par 4 • 430 yards from the back tees • 408 yards from the men's tees • Handicap 4
Hole 14 begins the three-hole section of Shaftesbury Glen around which The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen is being planned.
At 430 yards from the back tees, No. 14 is a substantial par 4 and is rated the fourth-hardest hole on the course.
The hole represents the more traditional side of Shaftesbury Glen's design: golfers have room to work with from the tee, but the length of the hole makes the approach shot important. A well-positioned drive can make a significant difference in the difficulty of the second shot.
For The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen, No. 14 is significant because the homes are being introduced into the existing golf-course setting associated with this hole. Some homes have views toward portions of the fairway, approach area or surrounding golf-course landscape.
The result is a residential setting where the golf course is part of the immediate environment rather than simply an amenity located a short distance away.
Hole 15 — A 200-Yard Par 3
Par 3 • 200 yards from the back tees • 177 yards from the men's tees • Handicap 12
Hole 15 provides a dramatic change from the long par 4 that precedes it.
The hole plays 200 yards from the back tees and 177 yards from the men's tees, making it a substantial par 3 despite being rated only the 12th-hardest hole on the course.
The challenge is largely concentrated in the tee shot. Unlike a par 4 where a golfer can recover with a second shot after an imperfect drive, No. 15 requires the golfer to make a single accurate shot onto the green.
The par 3 also contributes to the visual character of this portion of the golf course. Tee-to-green views on a par 3 can create a particularly open golf-course setting, and that becomes relevant when considering homes planned within the surrounding area.
For The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen, Hole 15 sits directly between the long par 4 of No. 14 and the long par 5 of No. 16, creating an unusually varied three-hole stretch.
Hole 16 — A Long Par 5
Par 5 • 520 yards from the back tees • 498 yards from the men's tees • Handicap 6
Hole 16 completes the three-hole sequence and is the longest of the three.
From the back tees, the hole measures 520 yards, while the men's tees play at 498 yards. It is also rated the sixth-hardest hole on the course.
As a par 5 of this length, No. 16 provides golfers with an opportunity to reach the green in fewer shots, but doing so requires both distance and accuracy. The hole's length also means that its fairway and playing corridor occupy a substantial portion of the golf-course landscape.
That makes No. 16 particularly relevant to The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen. This new home community is being introduced into a portion of Shaftesbury Glen that includes a long par 5, following a par 4 and a par 3.
The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen
The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen is not D. R. Horton's first investment in the Shaftesbury Glen area.
On the south side of the golf course, D.R. Horton is already selling 86 single-family homes in The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen. The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen is a separate D.R. Horton community from The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen, but its location on the opposite side of the golf course gives the two communities an interesting connection.
The single-family homes in The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen first started to close back in September of 2025. As of November 2026, the single-family homes in The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen have sold from approximately $340,000 to over $500,000, with an average selling price at around $400,000.
Together, the two developments represent a significant residential presence for D.R. Horton around Shaftesbury Glen.
It is important, however, not to confuse the two communities. The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen and The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen are separate D.R. Horton communities. The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen is already an active new-home community, while The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen is the newer development associated with the golf-course property around Holes 14, 15 and 16.
That distinction is particularly important when researching Shaftesbury Glen because the names are similar and both communities carry the D.R. Horton name.
A New Residential Chapter at Shaftesbury Glen
The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen adds another chapter to the residential development surrounding the Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club.
With The Preserve at Shaftesbury Glen already being developed on the south side of the course and 38 additional single-family homes planned for The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen, D.R. Horton is establishing a significant residential presence around the golf course.
The Express Series home designs are an important part of what makes this new community interesting. With floor plans ranging from approximately 1,045 to 1,704 square feet, including the efficient two-bedroom Perry design, The Fairways is expected to offer a more attainable alternative to some of the larger homes found in golf-course communities throughout the area.
Combined with the lifetime golf membership and the setting around three established holes at Shaftesbury Glen, The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen brings together several features that distinguish it from other new-home opportunities in Conway.
As of November 2026, D.R. Horton has not yet announced starting prices for the homes in The Fairways at Shaftesbury Glen.
